What Is Wicca? - Why Am I A Witch? - Altars & Sacred Spaces - Magick for Protection - Three-Fold Returns - Blessed Yule!
I'm RavenWings, and I'm a witch. But what are witches? What is Wicca?
Witches aren't like Sabrina Spellman or Mildred Hubble. We aren't green and cackling, and don't wear pointy hats or have speaking pets! Instead we're Pagans who follow the Old Religions that the Xians tried to oppress.
For thousands of years Xians have been forcing people to convert, and burning our ancestors at the stake in the Burning Times witch-hunts. They killed millions of people in total, mostly women.
Xianity stole some bits of the Old Religions, whilst other bits of the Old Religions were passed from generation to generation (often mother to daughter) for all this time. Now Paganism is re-emerging, and we're one of the fastest growing religions today!
There are lots of different types of Pagans. Wicca, the religion of the witches, teaches us that all Gods are aspects of the Great God, sometimes called the Horned God; all Goddesses are aspects of the Great Goddess, sometimes called Diana (NOT the princess!) We're peaceful witches, a key part of our religion is "An it harm none do what ye will".
The Moon is an important symbol of Wicca, especially the Three-Fold Moon which symbolises the Triple Goddess, Maiden, Mother, and Crone.
Pentacles are also very important symbols, representing the Five Elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. We use the Elements in our magick, to create magick circles where we perform rites.
I'm a Solitary Witch, and I'm going to use this website a bit like a Book of Shadows, to record my magick and rituals.
